DutiesAssisting in the planning, development and coordination of multiple transportation projects. As a Senior Project Engineer, will be responsible for both performing design and training design engineers and technicians. *Collection of data to support roadway/highway engineering design, studies and analysis
*Preparation of roadway/highway engineering design, studies and analysis
Project responsibilities include developing highway and bridge projects from the concept phase through final construction plans, providing quality services, and ensuring client satisfaction.
Business development and marketing responsibilities include developing and maintaining relationships with transportation clients, teaming partners, and sub-consultants; participating in proposal development efforts; and some participation in industry events.
Perform site surveys and job walkthroughs either independently or with the client and/or external customers.
Involvement in industry organizations such as NSPE, ASCE and/or ACEC is a plus.
Experience20+ years engineering experience in the area of roadway design and plan preparation (direct experience with SCDOT required). Business development and marketing experience with transportation clients throughout South Carolina is a plus.
*Demonstrated progression of responsibility for project completion
*Familiarity with all aspects of project development, e.g., data collection, analysis, alternative development, preliminary and final design, construction package preparation, specifications, cost estimates, consultation during construction
*Traffic control plan (maintenance of traffic) design
*Signing and pavement marking design
*Pedestrian and bicycle studies (a plus)
*Utility coordination (a plus)
*Familiarity with SCDOT design requirements
SkillsMust be current with the technical skills needed for the development of roadway designs and plans for SCDOT including conventional computer and CADD (MicroStation and Geopak) applications. *Strong written and verbal communication skills
*Familiarity with standard transportation engineering references, e.g., MUTCD, AASHTO Green Book, SCDOT Manuals, etc.
The preferred candidate should possess good leadership, time management, and communication skills. The ideal candidate should have existing client relationships, the ability to make decisions regarding technical aspects of projects, and good proposal development skills. The candidate should be able to plan, direct, and monitor transportation projects from concept through letting. Knowledge should include all facets of transportation projects, such as roadway, drainage, and traffic design; erosion and sedimentation pollution control; utility coordination; stormwater management design; development of right-of-way plans, and post construction services (RFP’s, Shop Drawings, Revisions). The candidate must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office software (Word and Excel).
