Duties

This is an entry-level bridge engineering position. Preference will be given to candidates with internship or other relevant experience outside of the classroom. The position will be within the Transportation Structures Practice (Bridge Engineering Division) of KCI Technologies to perform the following duties: Prepare design calculations for bridge and structure replacement/rehabilitation projects and guide CADD technicians in preparation of subsequent plans; Perform structural analyses on bridges and other transportation structures; Develop engineering reports; Perform hands-on condition inspections of existing bridges and other related structures as part of an inspection team in accordance with National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS); taking accurate field notes, measurements, and photographs; preparing condition inspection reports to accurately depict observations in the field; checking inspection reports prepared by others; and developing quantity and cost estimates for construction.

Experience

0 - 3 years of experience in structural engineering, preferably related to bridge design, bridge analysis, and/or bridge condition inspection.

Skills

Excellent oral and written communication skills are required. Must be able to work as part of a team. Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) are a must. Familiarity with various structural analysis computer programs is preferred. CADD experience is a plus.

Degrees / Licenses (R)equired – (P)referred

BSCE (or equivalent engineering degree) required; Master’s Degree a plus; EIT certification preferred. Completion of FHWA/NHI Bridge Inspection course is a plus.
