Duties

This position manages KCI’s South Atlantic CM/CEI regional practice. This individual will be a technical expert in the area of road, bridge and utility construction management & inspection. This individual shall be responsible for project management and supervision of staff in the Regional Practice within a specific geographic region and may serve as senior project manager or Principal In Charge for projects within the regional practice. A primary element of the RPL position is to be outward facing and focus on developing new business opportunities to grow the regional practice. The Regional Practice Leader shall maintain active participation in professional and business organizations within their geographic region, lead the business development efforts within that region, manage practice leaders and support resources within that region and support the other Practices located within that region. The Regional Practice Leader shall also coordinate with the other Regional Practice Leaders within the CM Discipline to ensure optimum utilization of staff and resources. The Regional Practice Leader shall be a direct report to the Discipline Manager, who reports to the Transportation Market Leader.

Specific duties of the Regional Practice Leader include the following:

Complete Annual Individual Training Program.
Prepare and deliver timely annual employee performance appraisals for assigned staff.
Recruit and develop lower tiers of leadership with in the Regional Practice.
Train adequate backup personnel to support your role in your absence.
Lead business development efforts within the region with a focus on coordinating marketing/proposal efforts and expanding KCI's service offerings and geographical footprint within the region.
Develop and maintain customer relationships by soliciting monthly performance feedback, identifying client needs, and identifying the next project.
Meet monthly with Discipline Manager, Operations Manager, and Practice Leaders to review financials.
Work with the Market Manager, Discipline Manager, Regional/Practice Leader(s), and the CFO to develop annual budget between September 1 and November 15.
Answer questions at monthly town hall meetings.
Participate in at least one technical society committee.
Comply with all KCI policies and procedures.
Hire and manage work routine of all assigned staff and assign job activities as required.
Meet annual Performance Agreements targets.
Meet monthly or more frequently as necessary with the Market Leader and Discipline Manager.
Complete other duties as required/assigned.
Participate and contribute to annual leadership meeting(includes PLEP training).
Participate in and contribute to regional office forums annually.
Actively participate in the development of the regional contribution to the Discipline annual business plan and strategic plan.
Represent KCI in technical societies and community organizations.
Review annual Employee Satisfaction Survey and implement required corrective actions.
Review monthly resource allocation plan with practice leaders. Ensure inter-practice resource allocation for efficiency.
Conduct annual market research between June 1 and August 31 with Discipline Manager.
Grow the regional practice by adding new clients or services within the assigned region.
Provide market trends to the Discipline Manager for the strategic planning sessions.
Provide project and client leads to other regional practice leaders to grow their regional practices.
Chart and coordinate practice performance results.
Deliver all projects on time and within budget while fully meeting the scope.
Meet biweekly or more frequently as necessary with project team on all projects/tasks greater than $50K in fees.
Meet monthly with clients to review project progress.
Monitor effective use of equipment and personnel.
Negotiate scope, schedule, and fee estimates for large and significant projects.
Operate within specified (corporate or project) budget parameters.
Prepare monthly progress reports and invoices for projects.
Provide monthly Oracle project updates to the project analyst.
Provide monthly WIP/AR comments to the operations manager.
Provide technical project and staff oversight.
Provide weekly new project budget data to Operations Manager for entry into Oracle.
Serve as project manager on large or significant projects.
Develop project specific safety plans. Ensure compliance with all Federal, state, and local safety rules and regulations.

Experience

15 or more years of professional experience in construction management/construction inspection (CM/CI) within the Transportation Industry. A thorough knowledge of State DOT (primarily SC and NC) and Municipal standards, processes, and requirements. Successful experience in State/County/municipal transportation CM/CI practices also desired. A record of increasing responsibility, progression in positions of leadership and project profitability responsibility for construction management/construction inspection related business units. Knowledge and experience in Design Build and Public/Private Delivery Methods, as well as other innovative design and construction delivery methods within the transportation field. Active membership and/ or interest in a construction industry-related professional societies. Familiarity with SCDOT & NCDOT transportation design and CEI practices and procurement processes.
Demonstrated experience managing CM/CEI practice(s). Ability to develop and manage project and business unit budgets. Demonstrated experience managing profit/loss for a business unit. Experience introducing and implementing technology and innovation in the delivery of KCI service (survey technology, mobile field solutions, digital documentation, drones, etc.)
Demonstrated ability to engage with and promote collaboration with other KCI practices to develop new business.
Experienced leadership, motivation and management of other senior to mid-level managers (peers and subordinates) to achieve mutually beneficial results.

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or CM and PE registration are a plus, but not necessarily required.
