Duties

Target candidate will re required to designate a variety of underground utilities, correctly read roadway plans and drawings or as-builts, create legible field sketches, document overhead connectivity, perform records research, operate and maintain vacuum excavation equipment and train subordinates. Conduct job site safety surveys and address safety issues to facilitate safety while working. Perform other duties as assigned.

Experience

This position is a lead SUE utility designator which requires 5 - 10 years of utility designating experience using many difference types of pipe and cable locating devices including Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR). Ability to read utility records and plans. Previous vacuum truck experience, and CADD knowledge is desirable. Familiarity with American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) standard 38-02 for SUE is desirable.

Skills

Ability to properly designate and locate various subsurface utilities in varied site conditions. Ability to effectively use a wide range of geophysical equipment. Recognize and understand overhead utility systems and connectivity. Ability to follow instructions and communicate well - oral and written. Having a can-do attitude is a must. Must have leadership and mentoring skills. Ability to perform some vac truck maintenance functions is a plus. Mechanical aptitude is desired.

Degrees / Licenses (R)equired – (P)referred

High School Diploma is required. College degree or coursework is desirable.
A valid current driver’s license and the ability to obtain a Department of Transportation (DOT) Medical Card for commercial vehicle operation is required. NULCA or other certification is a plus.

Other

Must be able to lift 50 pounds routinely, walk for extended periods, work in all weather conditions, willing to work evenings/weekends when required, willing to travel for overnight and extended stay projects as required. Pre-employment drug testing is required as a condition of employment.
