Duties

Duties include daily oversight of contractor activities, verifying compliance with plans and specifications, ensuring workmanship conforms to specified tolerances, documenting daily inspections and testing in daily reports, and preparing photo documentation of daily conditions, progress and quality. Conducting and documenting routine soils, concrete and asphalt testing, and ensuring that samples are delivered to the materials testing laboratory. Ability to maintain project records, solve construction problems in the field and establish effective working relationships with clients, contractors and designers.

Experience

Transportation construction inspection experience required. Experience inspecting roads, storm drains, sidewalk and bridge construction projects as Owner's representative, not construction contractor. Prior experience on DDOT projects required, Federal Highways and other transportation projects preferred.

Skills

Ability to read plans and specifications and determine merit on issues. Ability to use a computer and micro-soft office suite needed. Ability to observe and report on quality of construction, construction techniques, highway standards, document and resolve pay quantities on a daily basis.

Degrees / Licenses (R)equired – (P)referred

AA Degree in construction technology or equivalent work experience.

Other

Project location in National Capital Region (Prince George's, Montgomery Counties, Washington, DC, Fredericksburg, Culpeper, VA). The focus of inspection needs is in transportation projects. NICET Level II, HMA and ACI concrete field technician certifications, maintenance of traffic, erosion and sediment control training and certifications preferred.
